Congratulations go to David Smith for reaching a record 1621 points to win the 2009 competition - David narrowly pipped Danny Cagney of Brighton by 18 pts in the overall table - Fixtures for the 2010 tournament will be available in a few days!

Competing in the Golden Goal competition is very simple and straightforward - you have a number of options. However, it is vital that you enter into each week to stand a chance of success. You can do this in a number of ways, such as submitting predictions for the entire season in one go, monthly submissions, but it is far more powerful to submit on a weekly basis.

We do not close the week until 1 hr before the first kick-off match, so you can edit up until that point, and if you take injuries, suspensions and current form into account, you will be giving yourself the best chance of competing each week.

Take a look at what you will need to achieve to win the competition.

The 2009 champion scored 1621 points
That's an average of over 46 pts per week
The maximum points you can achieve each week is 132 pts
The record for one week currently stands at 118 pts
The best home team since records began (Liverpool) only win 61%
